Scuderia Leone 2017

Scuderia Leone is a Dutch sim racing. With national rFactor 2 GT, DTM and Porsche championship titles.

After their first season with black and white cars, Scuderia Leone switched over to a design with colored highlights. A combination between a gradient from dark to brighter blue with orange and white highlights made the design stand out from a full pack of race cars.

My work for Scuderia Leone includes all forms of media and their livery design. The website functions as a blog with updates on races and achievements. When entering the website the visitor is greeted with some footage of various Scuderia Leone cars, with the blog, upcoming events and latest media following below.

TRACE | Technical Artwork

I have been working as a technical artist on Greenlight Games' TRACE. This game, set in the 1980's, let's the player trace and capture unknown creatures, solve puzzles and explore the environments. It represents the gritty feel of some of the horror movies from that era.

As a technical artist my job involved all sorts of areas such as setting up the lighting model, adding special effects and doing some overall color correction work to really set the atmosphere in the environments.

For me as an artist it's not just about 3D models and their textures. It's about creating compositions that feel alive and implementing lighting effects to create breathing environments.

Here is a selection of indoor scenes with some of my hard surface modeling and texturing. Assets has been brought into Unity 4 and 5 for composition, shading and lighting.

I have experimented with multiple lighting techniques to get both good visual results and good performance. Mixing static and dynamic lighting is a great way to get good performance while keeping visual fidelity. A custom dynamic light culling system has helped me further in optimizing dynamic scenes.

Revolution Racing 2016

Revolution Racing has gained a lot of experience, with multiple wins in the Virtual Endurance Championship, fielding both GT and LMP1 cars.

For 2016 Revolution Racing wanted to go back to basic. They wanted to go for a simple black and white design to let the shapes of the cars speak for themselves. A white base with black on top for two cars and a black base with white on top for the other two cars gave the team a fresh look for the new season.

My work for Scuderia Leone includes all forms of media and most importantly their livery design. For the liveries the design had to fit an array of different cars. It had to be aggressive and open to different color accents, as each driver had its own. The choice was made to give the cars a stealth black look with white parts for the regular cars and a mirrored design with a white base for the sister team.

For the 2015-2016 cars the livery had to look quick and aggressive. A combination between white and grayish blue made the cars look unique on track. The lines of the designs accentuated the natural shape of the cars giving it the smooth but fast look.

About me

I graduated from the Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam in 2014 as a 3D game artist with a focus on hard surface modeling and texturing. While working on various projects as a 3D artist I used some time to focus on the technical side in order to better understand how to make use of lighting and shading. I've also used some time to get comfortable with some basic coding languages such as c# and learned how to use JavaScript, CSS and PHP.

I have learned to work with various Adobe applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere Pro, worked with Unity and used 3ds Max and Substance Painter to bring assets alive. The combination of all these different applications and skills makes it easier to communicate with other members of the team. It also makes it possible to work on different aspects within a project.

As a game artist I've been working on both 3D and 2D artwork and more recently worked as a technical artist.
Simracing has been growing as a digital sport. More and more teams use the visualization on their digital cars to show their identity and partners. I've created a few designs for some international simracing teams.
My design work ranges from web design to logo design and in a way touches on my simracing work.
